| May 31 - June 12 Trip to Uganda Think Humanity will be in Uganda this summer to work on the orphanage (CCO), to train teachers and bring resources. We will also distribute 4,000 mosquito nets for MaNdate2. The summer team is complete, but there will be future trips where volunteers are needed. If you would like to volunteer to help in the orphanage, please e-mail Think Humanity for more information. June 3 - June 9 MaNdate 2008 As written in the 2007 MaNdate report, the number of the needy was more than the amount of nets. Project Meds and Nets had a goal of 1,000 nets for MaNdate2, however, the morning after the goal was published a family e-mailed to say that they would like to buy all 1,000 nets. We would like to thank Kim, Eric, Jordan and Sydney Paulsen for this generous donation. We will continue to raise money for mosquito nets even though the goal was met. The ultimate goal of MaN is to provide all 19,250 refugees with a net by the end of 2008. March 2008 - The "ultimate goal" has now been met. Global Healing has given us a grant to purchase the remainder of the nets needed. Every household will now have a net for protection from mosquitoes. Now we will concentrate on medication and improving the small clinic in the camp. Also we will start raising money for Kyaka, another refugee settlement in Uganda. Thank you to all our donors! July 31 - July 31 "Get Your Goat Project" $20 a Goat! We need 100 goats! Why 100 goats? The money from this project will support many activiites and help support the operating costs of the orphanage. Think Humanity together with the COBURWAS EDUCATE CLUB, (a group of refugee students representing the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda and Sudan) are working on an orphanage project in the Kyangwali Settlement Camp in western Uganda. Think Humanity and the COBURWAS Club came up with the idea to sustain the orphans by: 1) raising and selling many goats, thereby earning money for operating costs for the orphanage; 2) using the goats as a food source; and 3) teaching the children to care for a goat. They will look after it and when it produces each will remain with a kid to sell. These refugees are displaced due to wars in their surrounding countries. Many are orphaned as a result of war and disease. Hopefully you will support this project with your $20 donation. Donors will be mentioned on this website and in the monthly newsletter. |
