Acholi Jewelry - made by refugees in IDP Camps and 100% goes back for TH projects in UNHCR Camps
Think Humanity has partnered with a group of women from Uganda that live in the Acholi Quarter Camp for Internally Displaced Persons. Parents of night commuter children in Gulu, known in the USA as the Invisible Children," are making beads to help earn family income and sustain a community financed food-aid program for their children. We purchase the jewelry from them and they benefit, but then we sell in the USA at a reasonable profit. 100% of the money then goes back to help with Think Humanity projects. It will then benefit those refugees displaced from war-affected countries living in Uganda in refugee settlement camps.

We are helping to build a small economy in Uganda, but at the same time help our own self-sustainable projects in refugee camps.
Purchase jewelry at our online store - Think Humanity Etsy shop

Proceeds go to Think Humanity "...hit from behind..." by Jim Heckel

hitfromb.jpg picture by bheckel

...hit from behind...is a captivating story of how a seemingly innocent fishing trip turns into disaster. During a hot summer evening Jim and his son biked home from a fishing trip when a car hit Jim, almost costing his life. Near death, Jim describes the black room. This book is not simply about the accident; it delves deeper into what it means to  have a relationship with God. Its not a matter of if we get hit from behind, its a matter of when. All of us get hit sooner or later. How do you handle the loss of control over your life? Click here for more information from Xulon Press. Just released and available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Target., and Xulon Press.  Click the store hyperlinks to purchase a book. Proceeds from the sale of the first 100 books will donated to Think Humanity.

Emmanuel's Story - Can you help with the education of these orphans?

Think Humanity lost funding for two of our students. I realize these are hard times. Please read the story attached written in 2007 by Emmanuel Nsabimana. He is the oldest child of three survivors. The parents and older siblings were killed in the war in North Kivu, DRC when he was only 8 years old. We have helped his younger sister, Elizabeth Zawadi (meaning "gift) and his brother James Kazini with their education for the past two years. It is especially important to me that this young girl receives her education. She is now about 15 years old and she is still in primary school. Let's help these orphans finish their education. Any donation is appreciated, but if you want to help one of these children for a trimester or a year, please ask for more information. (In September 2009 James was resettled to  Canada. We still need assistance for Elizabeth and Emmanuel.)

Long-Lasting Treated Bed Nets to Help us Fight Malaria

Mosquito nets for refugees
For Christmas 2007 Think Humanity raised enough money to purchase 750 bed nets for refugees in the Kyangwali Settlement in Uganda. These nets went to orphans, pregnant women and widows. In June 2008 we gave out 4,180 more nets. We raised donations to give out 750 nets for Christmas 2008. In June 2009 we handed out another 2,100 nets. For $5 each TH can purchase the long-lasting insecticide treated nets. They will last for 5 years and not only do they protect by shielding from mosquitoes as one sleeps, but also there is an insecticide on the net, which will eliminate the mosquitoes. Donate $5 and save a life. It has been proven that it will reduce the mortality rate of children under the age of five years by approximately 25% and reduce the cases of malaria by up to 60%.

Donate $5
The nets will go to refugees arriving into the Kyangwali settlement in western Uganda. They are fleeing from the DR Congo, the most blood-soaked region on earth. A net will provide them protection from malaria. Let's help them start their new lives - malaria free!

You can see by the picture below how these new refugees are living with no protection from the mosquitoes that carry malaria. The new arrivals have poorly built houses with no door to close during the night time, only  plastic sheeting to protect them from the rain. -Emmanuel , TH Meds and Nets manager.

Journals

Claire Burnett, a college student that went with us to Uganda, came up with a creative fund-raising idea. TH volunteers are making very unique journals and selling them to raise money for orphans. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the orphanage project. Purchase one for a friend or family member because many people appreciate getting a gift within a gift and everybody benefits this way.  For more information on the journals please contact Think Humanity at bheckel@ThinkHumanity.org.

The above have all been sold, but are samples of journals

"Making these journals allows me to put a little of myself into a part of someone else's life. Helping Think Humanity is important to me because it's a local group creating global change." - Jessica Ryan, oneintwenty

"Journals are a way for me to escape my daily life and take a deep breath. Yes it can get frustrating with all the cutting and gluing, but to know that I'm saving lives by simply spending my time doing something I love...it makes it completely worth it!!" - Caitlyn Clinton, TH volunteer

"I love knowing that something so simple as a journal can bring hope to so many lives." - Ashley Morrison, TH volunteer

"I make journals for TH because it's a simple way to make a dent in the pain and suffering in the world. It's a small step towards helping others and glorifying God; not only is it beneficial to others in various ways, it's also fun and enjoyable." - Becca Mendoza

"Making journals for TH is refreshing. Creating collages is fun, but when you realize that by doing so a little girl or boy is going to be able to attend school because of it, it definitely puts your life in another perspective." -Sydney Paulsen

Think Humanity...
PROJECT MEDS AND NETS was established to help refugees from war-torn countries in the fight against malaria.  Malaria continues to be the leading cause of death among refugees.  They are more susceptible to severe malaria in high risk areas where they are unable to get basic health services, are without adequate nutrition or clean water, shelter or sanitation. By lacking access to health care and malaria prevention tools the disease continues to spread at epidemic levels. One million children die unnecessarily each year from this disease.  Join us in the fight against malaria.  With your support we can provide anti-malarial medication and insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease.
